Challenge

The aim was to develop a place strategy for East Wick & Sweetwater as a precursor to design and brand development and to bring together the numerous stakeholders with one vision for the development.

Response

We collected both qualitative and quantitative data to determine the audience makeup. The output was a set of Participant Profiles delving deeply into the needs and wants of all those that were to come into contact with the place be it as staff, residents or those using the common spaces.

Then, by interviewing and workshopping with the many stakeholders including the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) and the community, we created a unique vision, big idea/organising thought, set of guiding principles, narrative and subsequent place strategy.

Impact

We brought together the various ideas and thoughts from the numerous stakeholders into a clear strategy to create one vision and one overarching big idea for the development.

In addition, findings from the insights phase were crucial in informing the Phase 2 masterplan and product specification design. Finally, by creating the place strategy first, the foundations were laid upon which a great brand identity could then be developed.
